Methanogenic bacteria are anaerobic microorganisms that generate gases like methane, carbon dioxide, hydrogen and hydrogen sulphide on the decomposition of organic materials to produce biogas.

It is used in the decomposition of organic waste materials of plants and vegetables for the production of biogas.

Uses of biogas:

  1. It is used for domestic heating and cooking purposes.
  2. Slurgy is produced after the decomposition and used as fertilizers.
