The Editor,

The Hindustan Times,

New Delhi.

Sir,

Through the columns of your esteemed newspaper I want to draw the attention of the authorities to a long standing problem of Delhi which has gained alarming proportions now. The problem is beggary. It has not remained just a necessity with a few who could not work or were reduced to such a state of affairs. It seems that beggary has become a regular profession as many healthy people including children are pushed into the trade as are seen everywhere now. Many of them are professional pick-pockets and thieves. Lots of incidents of chain-snatching and purse-lifting are reported on the red-lights. The beggars are among the increased guest-list of Delhi, and unless steps are taken immediately the problem may hit any further proportion and can be a law and order problem of tomorrow as many anti-social elements have taken to the robes of beggars to escape vigilance and hit their target.

I think it is a high time for the authorities to consider seriously the issue and take steps to put a complete ban on the menace of beggary in Delhi.

Thanking you

Yours Sincerely

Ram Lal
