Question

Find the gravitational potential energy of 1 kg mass kept at a height of 5 m above the ground. Calculate its kinetic energy when it falls and hits the ground. Take g = 10ms-2.

Answer

Mass (m) = 1 kg

Height (h) = 5 m

Gravitational potential energy = mgh
= 1 × 10 × 5
= 50 J

When the mass hits the ground, its entire Potential energy is converted to Kinetic energy.

Hence, Kinetic energy of mass on hitting the ground = 50 J.
