Sam was in jail because of no fault of his. Fortunately, when the chief judge came to visit the jail, Sam told him about his innocence. The chief judge enquired and found that he was indeed innocent. He set him free and also gave him a small sum of money to go back home. Sam straightaway went to the market. When he saw a shop selling birds, he stopped. He asked how much all the birds cost. The shopkeeper told an amount that Sam was short of. He bargained and the shopkeeper agreed to sell him all the birds for the money he possessed. One by one Sam opened the cages and set all birds free. The shopkeeper and other onlookers were amazed. They asked him why he was doing so. Sam said, “These birds have been caged for no fault of theirs, as I was. Had you been in prison like me, you too would have done the same.” Having set all birds free, Sam went away with a mild smile on his lips.
