A.K. Antony is a senior Indian politician and a member of the Indian National Congress (INC) party. He has served as the Chief Minister of the state of Kerala, as well as the Defense Minister of India and the Minister of External Affairs.
Antony was born on December 28, 1940, in Cherthala, Kerala, India. He studied law and began his political career in the 1970s as a member of the Indian National Congress. He was elected to the Kerala Legislative Assembly in 1977 and served as the Chief Minister of Kerala from 1977 to 1978 and again from 1995 to 1996.
In the 1990s, Antony was appointed as the President of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee, the state unit of the Indian National Congress party in Kerala.
He was also a Member of the Rajya Sabha (upper house) of the Indian Parliament from 1985 to 1995 and then again from 2000 to 2005. In the early 2000s, he was appointed as the Defense Minister and later as the Minister of External Affairs in the Government of India under the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, he served in these positions until 2014.
During his tenure as the Defense Minister, he was responsible for major defense procurement decisions, including the purchase of 126 Rafale fighter jets from France, and he has been credited for his efforts to increase transparency in defense procurement and strengthen the country’s defense capabilities.
Antony is widely regarded as one of the most experienced and respected leaders of the Congress party, he is also known for his integrity and his commitment to secularism and social justice.
