OR

What are meant by cathode and anode electrodes?    [2]

WBBSE Class X Physical Science Electrolysis 02 Mark 2022

Answer

Strong Electrolyte

A substance that completely dissociates into ions in water and conducts electricity very well is called a strong electrolyte.

Examples – sodium chloride (NaCl) and potassium nitrate (KNO₃).

Cathode and Anode

The electrode where reduction takes place and which attracts cations during electrolysis is called the cathode.

The electrode where oxidation takes place and which attracts anions during electrolysis is called the anode.
