Chapter 10 – Profit and Loss | Class 9 Flash Formula
Profit Formula
Profit (P) = Selling Price (SP) − Cost Price (CP)
Example:
Selling Price = ₹850
Cost Price = ₹700
Profit = 850 − 700 = ₹150
Profit Percentage Formula
Profit % = \text{Profit} \over \text{Cost Price} × 100
Example :
Profit = ₹150
Cost Price = ₹750
Profit % = (150/750) × 100 = 20%
Loss Formula
Loss (L) = Cost Price (CP) − Selling Price (SP)
Example :
Cost Price = ₹850
Selling Price = ₹700
Loss = 850 − 700 = ₹150
Loss Percentage Formula
Loss % = \text{Loss (L)} \over \text{Cost Price (CP)} × 100
Example :
Loss = ₹120
Cost Price = ₹600
Loss % = (120/600) × 100 = 20%
Selling Price Formula
(i) Selling Price (SP) = \frac{100+\mathrm{Profit}\%}{100} × Cost Price (CP)
(ii) Selling Price (SP) = \frac{100-\mathrm{Loss}\%}{100} × Cost Price (CP)
(iii) Selling Price (SP) = \frac{100-\text{Discount \%}}{100} × Marked Price (MP)
Example :
Cost Price = ₹500
Profit = 20%
SP = (100 + 20)/100 × 500
= (120/100) × 500 = 120 × 5 = ₹ 600
Cost Price Formula
(i) Cost Price (CP) = \frac{100}{100+\text{Profit \%}} × Selling Price (SP)
(ii) Cost Price (CP) = \frac{100}{100-\text{Loss \%}} × Selling Price (SP)
Example :
Selling Price = ₹720
Profit = 20%
CP = (100/100 + 20) × 720
= (100/120) × 720
= 72000/120 = ₹ 600
Discount Formula
Discount = Marked Price (MP) − Selling Price (SP)
Example :
Marked Price = ₹1200
Selling Price = ₹1020
Discount = 1200 − 1020 = ₹180
Discount Percentage
Discount % = \text{Discount} \over \text{Marked Price} × 100
Example :
Discount = ₹180
Marked Price = ₹1200
Discount % = (180/1200) × 100 = 15%
Marked Price Formula
Marked Price (MP) = \frac{100}{100-\text{Discount \%}} × Selling Price (SP)
Example :
Selling Price = ₹1200
Discount = 20%
MP = (100/100 - 80) × 1200
= (100/80) × 1200
= 120000/80
= ₹1500
