Gandhiji once said that a coward can prove to be the bravest of men, while a brave person can act like a coward in a particular situation.

Valour is not composed of brute physical strength alone, but it should be coupled with the traits of the mind-compassion and kindness.

Valour is not showing one’s strength to the weak, but it comes to its own when it is employed to protect the weak and the suffering.

Valour without care and valour without providence are of no value.

Discretion, at times, proves better than valour. It would be useless, rather detrimental to go on fighting in the face of certain death. It would be prudent to withdraw to a safer place for the time being only to re-launch the offensive at a suitable time.

When Maharana Pratap was fighting the famous Haldighati battle against the much larger Mughal army, he could have been defeated. Moreover, when his horse was injured, he could have been killed.

At this crucial time, he decided to withdraw from the battlefield. With time, he forced the Mughals to leave his territory, and so he became the king again.

Wisdom coupled with valour is the treasure that is envied even by Gods; and without it, it leads to destruction.

A brave warrior is the one who exercises discretion before making use of his force.

So, there is no denying the fact that discretion is better part of valour.
