It was very hot in summer. My parents decided to go to the hill station. I too accompanied them. We packed our bags and got ready for the journey. We went to Coimbatore by train. The railway journey was rather tiresome. From Coimbatore, we went to Ooty by bus. We reached there in the morning and put up at a hotel.
Ooty is one of the best hill stations in India. It may be called “the queen of hill stations”. It has many beauty spots. The next day, after breakfast, we were crowded with tourists from different parts of the country.
It is a beautiful summer. The mountain slopes are covered with tall, green trees which present a great sight at sunset and look very grand. The morning and evening hours are very pleasant. A cool breeze sets up and refreshes the mind. It makes one forget the oppressive heat of the plains.
The bright-hued flowers, the clouds sailing across the sky and the snow-covered peaks of the high mountains in the distance filled my heart with joy.
We stayed there for a week. I returned to Kolkata reluctantly. The memory of my visit to Nilgiris is still fresh in my mind.
