Describe in brief the locomotion in amoeba.
Answer
Amoeba, a unicellular organism, moves by a process called pseudopodia movement. It extends its pseudopodia in the direction of movement, which adheres to the substrate and pulls the body forward. Once the pseudopodia stick to the surface, the posterior part of the cell is drawn forward towards it. The anterior part is then dragged along due to the fluidity of the protoplasm. This type of movement is also called streaming movement, as the protoplasm flows in the direction of pseudopodia movement.
