The force of attraction between two bodies at a certain separation is 10 N. What will be the force of attraction between them if the separation is reduced to half ?

Given,

F = 10 N, when separation = R,

F_1={GMm\over R^2}=10 N

If separation = R/2 then,

Substituting the values in the formula above, we get,

F_2={GMm\over (R/4)^2} = 4GMm\over R^2

= 4GMm\over R^2

= 4×F1 = 4 × 10 = 40 N
