(i) Colour Change of Ferrous Sulphate Crystals:
- Ferrous sulphate (FeSO₄·7H₂O) crystals are pale green in color.
- After heating, the green color disappears, and the residue turns brown due to the formation of ferric oxide (Fe₂O₃).
(ii) Products and Type of Reaction:
On strong heating, ferrous sulphate decomposes into:
- Ferric oxide (Fe₂O₃) (Brown solid)
- Sulfur dioxide (SO₂) (Pungent gas)
- Sulfur trioxide (SO₃) (Pungent gas)
Balanced Chemical Equation:
2FeSO4 → Fe2O3 + SO2 + SO3
Type of Reaction: Thermal Decomposition Reaction
