QQuestion

After retirement Gobinda Babu got ₹ 5,00,000. He deposited a part of it in post office at 7.2% simple interest p.a. and the other part in a bank at 6% simple interest p.a. Every year he got ₹ 33,600 in total as interest from bank and post office. Find the amounts he deposited in bank and post office separately.

Exam-ready answer 05 Mark

Answer

Let post office deposit = x and

bank deposit = 500000 − x.

SI from post office = \frac{x×7.2×1}{100}

SI from bank = \frac{(500000 − x)×6×1}{100}

ATP: \frac{x×7.2×1}{100} + \frac{(500000 − x)×6×1}{100} = 33600

⇒ 0.072x + 0.06(500000 − x) = 33600

⇒ 0.072x + 30000 − 0.06x = 33600

⇒ 0.012x = 3600

⇒ x = \frac{3600}{0.012} = 300000.

So post office = Rs. 3,00,000; bank = 500000 − 300000 = Rs. 2,00,000.
