QQuestion
Why cannot alternating current be used in electrolysis?
Exam-ready answer • 01 Mark
✓Answer
Alternating current (AC) cannot be used in electrolysis because its direction changes periodically. Hence, the electrodes continuously interchange their polarity and a continuous chemical reaction or deposition at a particular electrode cannot take place.
