Chow mein is a popular Chinese dish that can be made with a variety of vegetables and meats. Here is a basic recipe for preparing chow mein:
Ingredients:
- 8 oz chow mein noodles
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 small onion, sliced
- 1 small carrot, sliced
- 1 cup sliced mushrooms
- 1 small bell pepper, sliced
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
- Cook the chow mein noodles according to package instructions, then drain and set aside.
- Heat the oil in a wok or large skillet over high heat.
- Add the onion, carrot, mushrooms, bell pepper, and garlic to the pan, and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes, or until the vegetables are tender.
- Add the cooked chow mein noodles to the pan, and stir-fry for an additional 2-3 minutes, or until the noodles are heated through.
- Stir in the soy sauce, and oyster sauce (if using) and add salt and pepper to taste.
- Cook for another 2-3 minutes, or until the sauce is evenly distributed.
- Serve hot and enjoy your chowmein.
Note:
- You can add any protein of your choices like chicken, shrimp or beef to make it more filling.
- You can also add different vegetables like broccoli, bokchoy, or snap peas for added nutrition.
- You can also make it spicy by adding chilli flakes or fresh chilli.
