Homi Jehangir Bhabha was an Indian nuclear physicist and the father of India’s nuclear program. He was born in 1909 in Mumbai, India, and studied at Elphinstone College and Cambridge University, where he received a Ph.D. in Nuclear Physics.

After completing his studies, Bhabha returned to India and established the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) in Mumbai in 1945, which became a leading institution for research in nuclear physics and related fields in India. He also established the first Indian nuclear research program, the Atomic Energy Establishment, Trombay (AEET), which later became the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC)

Bhabha’s work in the field of nuclear physics made significant contributions to the understanding of cosmic rays and the behavior of subatomic particles. He also played a key role in the development of India’s peaceful use of nuclear energy and helped establish India’s nuclear power program.

He also played a major role in the establishment of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). He was known for his strong support of developing countries and the “atoms for peace” program.

Bhabha passed away in 1966 in a plane crash while on a flight to Vienna to attend a meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency. He is remembered as one of India’s most accomplished scientists and a key figure in the development of India’s nuclear program. He is also known as the “Father of the Indian Nuclear Program”.
