William Shakespeare, born in April 1564 in Stratford-upon-Avon, England, is one of the greatest writers and poets in the English language. People all over the world still love his life and stories.

Shakespeare grew up in Stratford, probably went to a local school, and got married to Anne Hathaway in 1582. He left his hometown to work in the busy theatres of London. There, he acted in plays and also wrote them. He became a part-owner in a famous acting group called the Lord Chamberlain’s Men.

Shakespeare wrote 39 plays, like “Hamlet” and “Macbeth,” funny ones like “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” and history stories like “Henry V.” He lived during the time of Queen Elizabeth I and later King James I. His writing is known for understanding people and talking about important things. People all over the world still read his works, perform them, and learn from them.

William Shakespeare passed away on April 23, 1616, but his stories and words still live on today, making him an important figure in the world of literature and theatre.
