Question 12
Discuss the basic idea about DC dynamo.
Answer
A D.C generator converts mechanical energy into electrical energy in the form of D.C.

The main parts of D.C generator are:
- Armature coil: A large number of insulated copper wire is wound on an iron core of the armature.
- Field magnet: Armature is placed between two pole pieces of a strong magnet. The pole piece is made concave to provide a radial field.
- Split-ring commutator: Two split rings from the commutator, to which the ends of the armature coil are connected.
- Brushes: Two carbon brushes press against the commutators.
- Load: The output is connected to the load.
