Winds are caused by differences in air pressure due to unequal heating of the Earth’s surface by the Sun. The process occurs as follows:
- Uneven Heating of the Earth – The Sun heats different parts of the Earth’s surface at different rates. Land heats up and cools down faster than water, creating temperature differences.
- Pressure Differences – Warm air is lighter and rises, creating a low-pressure area, while cooler air is denser and sinks, forming a high-pressure area.
- Air Movement – Air moves from high-pressure areas to low-pressure areas, creating winds.
