(a) Define Centre of Gravity.
(b) A hollow ice cream cone has height 6 cm.
(i) Where is the position of its centre of gravity from the broad base?
(ii) Will its position change when it is filled completely with honey? Write Yes or No.

✓Answer
(a) The centre of gravity of a body is the point about which the algebraic sum of moments of weights of all the particles constituting the body is zero and the entire weight of the body can be considered to act at this point, howsoever the body is placed.
(b) (i) For a hollow cone, centre of gravity = \frac{h}{3}=\frac63 = 2 cm from the base.
(ii) Yes. When filled completely, it becomes a solid cone and the new centre of gravity is \frac{h}{4}=\frac64 = 1.5 cm from the base.
