Camel can tolerate extreme dehydration because its red blood corpuscles are oval in shape, not biconcave like those of man.
These oval RBCs can circulate easily even when blood becomes viscous and can expand up to about 240% of original volume without rupturing when the animal drinks large quantity of water after dehydration.
