In a partnership business, ratio of capitals of Ila, Rahima and Bela is 3 : 8 : 5. If profit of Ila is Rs. 600 less than profit of Bela, find the total profit in the business.

Answer
Let the common factor be x.
Then profits = 3x, 8x, 5x.
Given: Bela’s profit − Ila’s profit = 600
⇒ 5x − 3x = 600
⇒ 2x = 600
⇒ x = 300.
Total profit = 3x + 8x + 5x
= 16x
= 16 × 300
= 4800.
