Question

If 75 buckets of water of equal measure are taken out from the water of a cubical water-filled-tank, then 2\over5th of the water remains in the tank. If the length of one edge of the tank is 1.5 metres, then calculate the quantity of water in litre that can be held in each bucket.

WBBSE Class X Mathematics Rectangular Parallelopiped or Cuboid 04 Mark 2024

Answer

Side of cube = 1.5 m

Volume of the tank = (1.5)³ = 3.375 m³

After removing 75 buckets of water, 2\over5th of the water remains in the tank.

So, the fraction of water taken out = 1 – 2\over5 = 3\over5

Volume of water taken out = 3\over5 × 3.375 = 2.025 m³

Volume of water in each bucket = 2.025 ÷ 75

= 0.027 m³ × 1000 [since, 1 m³ = 1000 litres]

= 27 litres

Hence, each bucket can hold 27 litres of water.
