Farooq Abdullah is a Indian politician and a former Chief Minister of the state of Jammu and Kashmir. He is the President of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference, a regional political party in the state. He has also been a Member of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Indian Parliament.

Farooq Abdullah was born on October 21, 1937, in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, India. He is the son of Sheikh Abdullah, who was a leading political figure in the state and the first Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir after the state acceded to India.

Farooq Abdullah began his political career in the 1970s and served as the Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation in the Government of India under the Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. In the 1980s, he became the President of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference, and he served as the Chief Minister of the state of Jammu and Kashmir from 1982 to 1984 and again from 1996 to 2002.

During his tenure as Chief Minister, he focused on the development of the state and on providing a better quality of life to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, he also tried to maintain a balance between the different regions of the state and religious communities.

Abdullah has been a Member of the Lok Sabha (lower house of the Indian Parliament) twice, and a member of the Rajya Sabha (upper house of the Indian Parliament) once. He has also served as a Union Minister in the Government of India under the Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, he was the Minister of Renewable Energy from 2009-2014.

Abdullah is known for his secular views and his advocacy for the rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, he is considered as one of the most prominent political figures of the state, and he continues to be a respected leader in Indian politics.
