Sir Jagadish Chandra Bose, often known as J.C. Bose, was an Indian scientist and polymath who was born on November 30, 1858, in Mymensingh, India (now in Bangladesh). He made significant contributions to the fields of physics, biology, and botany, and is considered one of the pioneers of radio science.

Bose received his early education in Bengal and then studied at the University of London and the University of Cambridge. He returned to India in 1885 and was appointed as a professor of physics at the Presidency College in Calcutta (now Kolkata). He later became the Principal of the College of Science in Calcutta.

Bose’s major scientific contributions include the development of the first wireless communication system using electromagnetic waves, which predates Guglielmo Marconi’s wireless telegraphy. He also conducted pioneering research on the electrical responses of plants, which helped establish botany as a field of experimental research. He also made notable contributions to the study of crystal physics and published several books on his research.

In recognition of his contributions to science, Bose was knighted by the British government in 1917 and received numerous other honors and awards. He passed away on November 23, 1937, in Giridih, India. His scientific works and investigations are considered as a seminal in the field of plant physiology and radio science, paving way for further research in these areas.
