Bernard Arnault is a French billionaire businessman and the chairman and CEO of LVMH (Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy), the world’s largest luxury goods conglomerate. LVMH comprises over 60 subsidiaries that each manage a small number of prestigious brands, including Louis Vuitton, Dior, Fendi, Bulgari, Celine, Loewe, Kenzo, Givenchy, and Tag Heuer. Arnault is widely considered to be one of the most powerful and influential people in the fashion industry.
Arnault was born on March 5, 1949, in Roubaix, France. He graduated from the École Polytechnique in Paris in 1971, and later earned an MBA from the École des Ponts ParisTech.
Arnault began his business career in the construction industry, working for his father’s company, Ferret-Savinel. He was able to gain control of the company in the 1970s and helped to reshape it, changing its focus to luxury goods and diversifying its portfolio of brands.
In 1984, Arnault acquired a controlling stake in the luxury goods company Financiere Agache and merged it with the fashion house Louis Vuitton to create LVMH.
