Jiddu Krishnamurti was an Indian philosopher, speaker and writer who is considered one of the most important spiritual figures of the 20th century. He was born in 1895 in the village of Madanapalle, India and was identified at a young age as a potential “vehicle for the new World Teacher” by members of the Theosophical Society.
Krishnamurti rejected this idea and dissolved the Order of the Star in the East, which had been established to support his work as the World Teacher. He then began to speak and write on his own beliefs and philosophy, which emphasized the need for individuals to free themselves from the constraints of traditional religious and societal beliefs and to think for themselves.
He believed that true understanding comes through self-knowledge and meditation, rather than through beliefs, dogmas, or systems of thought. He also talked about the importance of self-knowledge and self-awareness, and rejected the idea of any gurus or spiritual authorities. He advocated the idea of a radical inner transformation as the path to peace and harmony in the world.
Krishnamurti traveled and spoke extensively throughout his life, giving thousands of talks and lectures in many countries around the world, and is also the author of many books. He also founded several schools and educational institutions, to promote education that would awaken the student’s intelligence, creativity, and individuality. He passed away in 1986 in Ojai, California, United States.
Krishnamurti’s teachings, although not part of any organized religion, continues to influence and inspire many people around the world who seek a deeper understanding of themselves and the world. He is considered as one of the greatest spiritual teacher of the 20th century and continues to be an influential and important spiritual figure.
