Prakash Padukone is a former Indian badminton player who was born on June 10, 1955, in Bangalore, India. He is considered one of the greatest badminton players of all time and has achieved many notable accomplishments in his career.

Padukone began playing badminton at a young age and quickly showed promise. He won his first national title in 1971 and his first international title in 1973 at the Junior National Championships in Denmark. He went on to win numerous national and international titles throughout his career, including the prestigious All England Open in 1980, which is widely considered the unofficial World Championship of badminton at that time.

In addition to his success on the court, Padukone was also known for his sportsmanship and his dedication to the sport. He was the captain of the Indian team from 1991 to 1993 and was instrumental in the development of badminton in India. After his retirement from active play he started to coach many successful players and also established a badminton academy to groom young talent.

Padukone was awarded the Arjuna Award in 1972, and the Padma Shri in 1982 by Government of India for his achievements in sports. He was also inducted into the Badminton Hall of Fame in 2005, and In 2018 he was awarded India’s 3rd highest civilian award Padma Bhushan

Padukone is currently working as a motivational speaker and badminton commentator, and is actively involved in promoting badminton in India through the Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy.
