Ram Prasad Bismil spent his entire life for the cause of India’s freedom. At a very early age, he plunged into India’s freedom struggle. He took to the armed revolution when Bhai Parmanand was hanged in 1916.

When Ram Prasad was in eighth class, the Indian National Congress session was held in Lucknow. Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak was also gracing the session. The Congress leaders wanted that Tilak should not be taken through the streets in the procession but such was Tilaks’ popularity that Ram Prasad and his fellows lifted Tilak on their shoulders, seated him in a vehicle, and took out the procession.

Ram Prasad Bismil was born in Shahjahanpur. He faced many difficulties in his early years. He came into contact with intellectuals and revolutionaries of Arya Samaj. He was convinced that only an armed struggle can bring India its independence. Ram Prasad belonged to a state where all kinds of firearms were easily available. He started keeping firearms with him from an early age and also contacted many revolutionaries. He was involved in the `Mainpuri’ and `Kakokri’ conspiracies. In fact, he had planned to rob the state treasury to raise money for purchasing arms and ammunition, but he was caught and sentenced to death by hanging.

To influence and inspire the youth, Ram Prasad Bismil wrote books like Bolshevik Programme, How America Got Independence, and Swadesh Rang. He was also a revolutionary poet.
