Shachindra Nath Sanyal was born in Benaras where he completed his education. He started participating in revolutionary activities-for his student days.
Shachindra Nath jumped into the independence-struggle fray in 1908 when he formed Young Men’s Association. The same year he came into contact with Ras Behari Bose and gave Hindustan Republican Association a revolutionary outlook. He also came into contact with the members of the Gadar Party.
He was jailed in Benaras in 1915. The British sentenced him to life imprisonment and he was sent to Andaman. However, he was released but was rearrested in 1925 during the Kakori conspiracy. His health deteriorated in Gorakhpur jail, but he did not give up and underwent imprisonment many more times. Ultimately, he died in Gorakhpur jail in 1945, at the age of 50.
Throughout his life, Sanyal showered a great penchant for revolutionary literature. He wrote Jailed Life which is an autobiography. He will always be remembered for his dedication and involvement in the cause of the nation.
