Jean-Baptiste Lamarck
Explanation
Jean-Baptiste Lamarck, a French naturalist, proposed the idea of “Inheritance of Acquired Characters” in the early 1800s. This theory suggested that organisms could pass on traits they acquired during their lifetime to their offspring. For example, Lamarck believed that giraffes developed long necks by stretching their necks to reach leaves on tall trees, and that this acquired characteristic was then passed on to their offspring.
