Answer
Heterochromatin is a more condensed, highly coiled chromatin region which does not carry active genes and shows late DNA replication, whereas euchromatin is loosely coiled, gene‑rich and transcriptionally active. If heterochromatin increases at the cost of euchromatin, the number of active genes and their expression will decrease and overall genetic activity of the cell will be reduced.
