Meera (also spelled Mira or Meera Bai) was a 16th-century Hindu mystic poet and devotee of Lord Krishna from Rajasthan, India. She is considered one of the most important saints of the Bhakti movement and is known for her devotional poetry and songs in the Rajasthani language, which express her intense love and devotion for Lord Krishna.

Not much is known about Meera’s life as there are no historical records available from that period . According to traditional accounts, Meera was born in 1498 in a royal Rajput family in Rajasthan. She is said to have been married to Bhoj Raj, the crown prince of Mewar, but she rejected the life of a royal queen and instead devoted herself to the worship of Lord Krishna.

Meera’s poetry and songs are considered some of the most beautiful and powerful expressions of devotion to Lord Krishna. In her poetry, she uses intense emotional language to describe her longing for and union with Krishna, whom she considers her personal lord and savior.

Meera’s poetry and songs were widely popular in her lifetime, and continue to be widely read and sung in India and around the world. She is revered as a great saint, known for her devotion, courage and selfless love for Lord Krishna. Her poetry and teachings continue to be an inspiration to many and a testimony to the power of devotion.

Her followers believe that she was an incarnation of the goddess Radha, Lord Krishna’s consort and one who attained spiritual realization through devotion and surrendered herself to God. Her life is celebrated as an ideal for spiritual seekers, many temples and shrines dedicated to her.
